We’re a Wellington-based team of accountants and business advisers who believe good advice should leave you understanding more than when you arrived, and feeling confident about what to do next.
For nearly 40 years, we’ve worked alongside New Zealand business owners, helping them stay on top of their accounting and tax obligations, understand their numbers and make better-informed decisions about their businesses and their futures.
Today, we support small and medium businesses, women in business, individuals, trusts and property owners with practical accounting, tax and business advice.
We’re experienced with numbers. But just as importantly, we understand the people behind them.
That means taking the time to listen, explaining things in plain English and providing advice that reflects your business, your goals and the life you want to live.
Our story
Our story began in Wellington in 1988 as accounting practice Millar & Miller.
Like most accounting firms at the time, much of our work centred on financial accounts, tax and compliance. Those things remain important today, but over the years we recognised that our clients needed more from us.
Business owners didn’t just want to know what had happened in the previous financial year. They wanted help understanding what their numbers meant, making decisions and planning what should happen next.
That thinking led to the practice becoming ilumin in 2013 and an increasing focus on business advisory alongside our established accounting and tax expertise.
Today, that philosophy remains at the heart of how we work.
We help clients understand their numbers, ask better questions, plan ahead and make informed decisions with confidence. For some, that means getting the financial foundations right. For others, it might mean improving cashflow, growing a business, navigating change or preparing for succession.
And while we proudly work with businesses of all kinds, over the years we’ve developed particular expertise supporting women founders, owners and leaders. Drawing on decades of experience and our understanding of the realities many women experience in business.
Our services have evolved considerably since 1988, but something important hasn’t changed: we believe great accounting starts with great relationships.
